Something about yourself
Battleaxe Betty is a radically inclusive heavy metal musical about the illegitimate child of a Queen, struggling with her predetermined legacy. She employs the help of a rock star to assist her in the fight against a destiny she rejects. First produced in 1997 on a $200 budget at the Factory Theater in Chicago featuring songs by Scott OKen. In the Fall of 2016, a workshop of Act One was presented at American Theatre Company in Chicago as part of their CORE residency program. It was developed and presented with ASL interpretation, live audio description and captioning. A nine piece band lead by Diego Colon, multiple sword and staff fights designed by Gaby Labotka, and a wide range of scene work styles were among the combined elements of the 45 minute presentation. We learned a great deal about how to make this work, are interested in continuing to explore.
